I've been here a few times now and always have a good experience. I never have to wait more than 10 minutes and service is always prompt. The fish has great quality and great price point. I always get the Trust Me which is the perfect portion for lunch and comes with two hand rolls. They have no issues with swapping out the crab hand roll for a yellowtail one which I prefer.

Orange County has some really great omakase sushi places (oshmima is my top pick), so I really wanted to try sugar fish because I've heard great reviews on their omakase. We were in a bit of a rush because we had to catch the ballet, and they were able to accommodate our expedited request. So many delicious courses. We split the highest level omakase and it was the perfect amount of food to feel perfectly satiated. Not too little, not too much, just right. Kind of like a little red riding hood story. I had a beer with my food and it was served in a cold glass (the only way to drink Japanese beer). I can't remember all the types of fish they served but I'll post the photos. The downtown LA sugarfish sushi is a dark, cozy vibe with a slight industrial feel to it. It hard to find the front door because the address takes you to a multi unit building. It's a single door entrance with a few steps leading up to the door. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did. It's my go to spot when I'm in DTLA.

Any time I look up food suggestions in the area, Sugar Fish always pops up and I've been intrigued by their "bento box style omakase" (though later found out this is for take-out/delivery only but makes sense to reduce paper waste and match the dining ambiance). While we were in the area, my bro, his friends, and I decided to stop by. On weekends, there WILL be a wait, but they can put your name on a waitlist and via text and through an app, they'll let you know when the table is ready. For a party of 4, it took around 30 minutes, and we had the chance to walk around and peruse the many shops in the area. You get the option of waiting for a table or being seated at the bar area and since we wanted to most efficient option, we went with the latter. They have various chef specials/omakase options that list what you get in each order, a special limited menu, and you can, of course, order a la cart. All of us opted for the "Don't Think Just Eat, Trust Me" omakase option as it was our first time there and we wanted to indulge and treat ourselves. Apparently, it's the most similar to what Nozawa served at the Studio City location. A HUGE PLUS, is that there are Special Limited Menu items that are part of this set as well, so no need to order a la cart (but we still did to try some of their more unique menu offerings). Unlike other sushi places, the rice for the nigiri did have a tendency to fall apart a bit more (or due to my own bumbling use of chopsticks), that that is due to the strict techniques that Nozawa incorporated into how he makes sushi. The rice is served warm and is loosely packed, so just use your hands if need be. Additionally, the dishes are already served in this exacting style, so there can be no requests for extra sauces for pre-sauced dishes, salt, or plain bowls of rice. Also, an FYI, you don't have to tip here, but a 16% fee is already pre-added to your bill. We got the: 1) Ankimo (a la cart): -Much creamier and less of a dense pate than how I've had monkfish liver in the past. -This is probably since it's served more of a sashimi style and is seasoned with miso sauce and chives. -It's a small scoop, but more than enough for our group to share and try. 2) Albacore Belly (a la cart): -From the PNW, served with ponzu and chives. -Melt in your mouth, fatty, and delicious. -As much as I love regular albacore, this definitely is leagues above. 3) Unagi (a la cart): -You can never go wrong with this and honestly more enjoyable than anago (the sea eel). 4) Don't Think Just Eat, Trust Me: This comes with: -Tuna Sashimi with ponzu and chives -Albacore Sushi -Chutoro Sushi -Seabream and Shiso -Japanese Yellowtail Sushi -Pink Lobster Sushi: reminded us of sweet shrimp, a bit chewier than what we'd like, but not bad. -Salmon with Konbu -Anago (sea eel) Sushi: it's not bad, but doesn't hold a candle to the freshwater eel (unagi). A bit tougher and not as fluffy unagi. It was also a bit saltier too. Nice to try once, but I'd rather just get unagi. -Toro Hand Roll & Lobster Handroll: it's recommended to eat it immediately so that the nori on the outside still retains the crunch. All of us enjoyed the lobster handroll with its creaminess over the lobster sushi. I can say that this place specializes in the freshness of the fish, combined with simple seasonings and flavors so that the fish itself is the star of the dish. It's simple, but delicious without being too overly fancy or complicated. Pretty good!

I have and will always love Sugarfish. This was my first time at this location and I loved my experience. We came in around 3:15ish on a weekday and it was still lunch time! Me and my friend both ordered the nozawa trust me. Everything came out promptly. If you've ever been to Sugarfish, you know that the food doesn't come out at the same time, at least for the set menus. However, the server and chefs was really fast and we were served our next dishes as soon as we were done with the previous. Everything was super fresh and delicious! Only con here is parking. We parked at the Bloc but Sugarfish is not in the Bloc. We were able to get our parking validated in another store that was actually in the Bloc so you could definitely park there if you are planning on going to the Bloc. There is street parking available as well. Overall, I'm not sure if I'll be back to this location just due to the parking, but I definitely would be back to Sugarfish as soon as possible!

Sugarfish is an upper scale sushi restaurant located in DTLA. They are walk-in only and can get busy on nights on the weekends. They have a restroom available and street parking. The restaurant is slightly luxurious with a blue vibe throughout. The restaurant is nice for a night out with friends. The service was good; our plates came out quickly and were taken away once finished. They also accommodate for allergies which is great. Overall, the service and ambiance was good. Food We ordered the Trust Me for $35. For the price, the portion definitely won't fill you up but is good if you're looking to try something else. The fish had great quality and the pieces were pretty big. The rice was warm but a bit hard to manage at times. The sauces were great with the fish. The handrolls weren't too special. Overall, Sugarfish is a great place to try out for a pricier night out. Overall: 4.3 The ambiance + service: 4.5/5 The food: 4/5 The price: $$$

I ordered online for to go, and it was ready within 15 minutes. I got the "to -go trust me" which is actually $5 more than the listed dine in price, yet lacks the yellowtail hand roll. They did not, however, omit the 16% mandatory service fee/tip. My comments on the sushi box. The Nigri was 10 out of 10 absolutely delicious. I absolutely loved the presentation and all the the little dipping sauces/accouterments. So fresh, tender and flavorful. It's truly a girl dinner for the ages. I did not like either of the rolls. The one on the bottom, the crab roll, was suspect as far as mayo goes. On my first bite crunched down on crab shell, and although it shows it's real crab, hearing and feeling that crack in my mouth made my skin crawl. The other roll on the top was just meh, it didn't taste super fresh like the spectacular nigiri. I did not eat more than one piece of each roll, and wouldn't order it again. I would 100% return with a couple tweaks to my order. They have a box that comes with no rolls ("No Roll Trust Me") and next time I would get that or choose an assortment of nigiri.

I've heard so many great things about this place, and finally decided to give it a try with some friends! the night before, we all had omakase for dinner at a spot out in OC & after trying sugar fish, I definitely enjoyed sugarfish more! their rice was soft and buttery, and the fish pretty much melts in your mouth. Most of us got the trust me lunch, and we were pretty filled after. i highly recommend giving sugarfish a try! one of my friends ordered the trust me LITE, but we think our server must have misheard and thought she wanted the trust me set. didn't realize it till the last fish came out and we checked the bill to see that she was also charged for a trust me lite. *they are a no tipping establishment, but a 16% fee is added to the bill* - trust me lunch - edamame - large scallop - nz sea bream - yellowtail - hand salmon

I have a confession to make: I've become a Sugarfish addict. Every time I'm in LA, I have to order from Sugarfish at least once a week. I constantly crave it and am always telling friends to check it out. The other day I realized that I only gave Sugarfish 4 stars in 2021...I was clearly OUT OF MY MIND! If you want delicious, fresh fish that is always consistent, and actually works great as to go food, look no further! You definitely can't get better quality sushi at this price (and let's be real, the sushi here is better than tons of places that cost way more). Sugarfish, I'm so sorry it took me until now to rectify my mistake. Hopefully you can forgive me. I'll be back soon!

We were still hungry after Kazu Nori so we walked through tons of dirt and grime in DTLA and came here for the trust me light. Our waitress is nice and friendly! Inside is cool and hip and it's definitely not crowded!
